Why storyboard-first beats “AI slide generation”

In real professional work, the hard part is not “making slides look pretty”. The hard part is building the argument, the structure, and the narrative — and then aligning the deck to company templates.

Start with meaning, not decoration

Build a storyboard that makes sense to humans. Then generate a clean deck you can polish. (No over-designed AI “artifacts”.)

Your template stays in control

PPT-Maker maps storyboard fields into your Slide Master placeholders using AltText tags. Corporate layout rules remain intact.

Fast iteration

Change structure in the storyboard (not slide-by-slide). Re-generate and polish — dramatically faster for client work.

How it works

A simple workflow designed for deep thinkers: structure first, generate second, polish last.

1

Create a storyboard sheet

In Excel, click Create StoryBoard Sheet. Each row becomes one slide (No., Type, Title, Lead, Body, Notes).

2

Select your PowerPoint template

Choose the deck you already use (corporate or client template). Run the compatibility check once to avoid surprises.

3

Generate slides in order

Click Generate Slides from StoryBoard. PPT-Maker creates slides in the order defined by column A.

Works with AI (optional)

  • Ask your AI to draft slide titles and bodies.
  • Paste into the storyboard sheet.
  • Generate. Then iterate with AI or manually.

Designed for professional constraints

  • No cloud editor required.
  • No “locked-in” templates.
  • Diagnostics built in for support at scale.

Corporate templates, safely

PPT-Maker uses AltText tags on placeholders in Slide Master view to map storyboard fields to the correct locations. Once set up, the same template can be reused across projects.

One-time setup (per template)

  • Open PowerPoint → View → Slide Master
  • Pick each layout and set placeholder AltText:
  • PPTMAKER:TITLE, PPTMAKER:LEAD, PPTMAKER:BODY (and optionally PPTMAKER:BULLET)

Compatibility checker included

  • Shows missing layouts or missing tags.
  • Does not modify your PowerPoint file.
  • Ideal for first-time setup and troubleshooting.
Example placeholder tags
PPTMAKER:TITLE
PPTMAKER:LEAD
PPTMAKER:BODY
PPTMAKER:BULLET
Important: PPT-Maker does not “understand” visual design. Your Slide Master does. This is the point.

5 slide types + AltText tags (minimum set)

PPT-Maker works by mapping storyboard fields into your Slide Master placeholders using AltText. To keep setup fast and reliable, PPT-Maker standardizes around 5 slide roles that cover most professional decks.

Why only 5? Fewer types can’t express real deck structure (sections / agenda / emphasis), while more types explode template setup and support complexity. This is the balance point.
Slide Type Purpose Required AltText Notes
Cover First slide: title only PPTMAKER:TITLE Keep it simple. No BODY.
Divider Section boundary PPTMAKER:TITLE Enforces story structure.
Agenda Outline of the deck PPTMAKER:TITLE + PPTMAKER:BODY Agenda is generated as a table into BODY.
Main Default explanatory slide PPTMAKER:TITLE + PPTMAKER:LEAD + PPTMAKER:BODY Most common. Predictable mapping.
Bullet Emphasize bullet points PPTMAKER:TITLE + PPTMAKER:LEAD + PPTMAKER:BULLET If BULLET is missing, BODY is used as fallback.
Cover layout pattern with required AltText tags

Cover

Only PPTMAKER:TITLE. Perfect for a clean first impression.

Divider layout pattern with required AltText tags

Divider

Only PPTMAKER:TITLE. Separates sections so the story stays readable.

Agenda layout pattern with required AltText tags

Agenda

TITLE + BODY. Agenda is generated as a table into BODY.

Main layout pattern with required AltText tags

Main

TITLE + LEAD + BODY. The default slide type.

Bullet layout pattern with required AltText tags

Bullet

TITLE + LEAD + BULLET (fallback: BODY).

Setup takes 5–10 minutes per template in Slide Master view. After that, you can reuse the same template safely across projects. Full step-by-step guide: Start Here.

FAQ

The questions you’ll get from serious professional users.

Is PPT-Maker an AI tool?

No. It’s a structured workflow tool. You can use AI to draft storyboard content, but PPT-Maker’s job is to execute your structure into slides predictably — using your template.

Does it upload my content to the cloud?

No slide content is uploaded by PPT-Maker. License activation/validation talks to Lemon Squeezy’s license API. Everything else runs locally in your Office apps.

Will it break my corporate template?

PPT-Maker does not rewrite your Slide Master. It places text into placeholders that you tag with AltText. If a template is missing tags/layouts, the compatibility checker tells you what to fix.

How do I get help?

Use the add-in’s “Copy Diagnostic Report” button and post it to GitHub Discussions (or email support). This minimizes back-and-forth and keeps support scalable.

Can I customize layout mapping?

Advanced users can extend mapping by layout name, but the recommended path is the 5 slide types + AltText setup, because it stays predictable across templates.

Ready to stop redesigning slides?

If you make decks for real work, the fastest path is: story → structure → execution.
